Student Support Services

澳门赛马会 (AUA) provides individualized support to our students. Students also have access to numerous resources that empower them to master the study of medicine during the Preclinical and Clinical Sciences.

  • Education Enhancement Department (EED), Preclinical Sciences

    The EED provides services and activities that assist students in the development of organizational skills and effective study habits, complement and enrich classroom instruction, improve student performance, and advance instructional goals for learning, retention, and curriculum progression.

    EED initiatives include:

    • One-on-one academic advising with EED learning specialists
    • Faculty-led tutoring
    • Medical Scholars Program
    • Peer-led active learning sessions
    • Peer-led individual tutoring
    • Peer Mentorship Program 鈥 Upper-semester students who provide mentoring to first semester
    • Academic Success Program 鈥 a proactive initiative to provide all students who were unsuccessful on the first examination of the semester with essential academic support and resources to assist them in their future academics
    • Cognitive Processing Course (CPC) 鈥 a mandatory program to support students repeating a semester in medical school
    • Study plans for internal and external examinations or USMLE Step 1 examination
    • Workshops and online resources

    The EED also exposes the student to a variety of topics, including:

    • Learning and study strategies for medical education
    • Time management
    • Active learning/active reading
    • Critical thinking
    • Note taking and note making
    • Dissecting multiple-choice questions
    • Test anxiety coping
    • Concept mapping
    • Academic English Language (ESL)
  • Clinical Education Enhancement Department (Clinical EED), Clinical Sciences

    Clinical EED offers academic assistance, advisement, and support services in a remote environment to students located at clinical sites across the globe. Students can contact our virtual office to access services that can improve聽performance, which leads to retention and progression through the clinical curriculum.

    Clinical EED Programs and Services:

    • 1:1 Academic Advising, which uses the Appreciative Advising model. The Appreciative Advising model聽is聽a student-centered approach to promote student success.
    • The Foundations of Clinical Education course is designed to support students’ successful entry into their first clinical core rotation. The course incorporates cultural competency; quality and safety; and professionalism training.
    • The Clinical Partners聽Mentoring Program is specifically designed to provide mentorship聽for students as they transition into the clerkship rotations.
    • The Clinical Scholars Program聽is comprised of high-achieving clinical students and recent alumni who have demonstrated academic and clinical excellence.
    • Individualized tutoring services to guide students toward closing knowledge gaps聽that to improving clinical reasoning.
    • The Question Partners Program Series includes 鈥淧rep Programs鈥澛爐argeted for the improvement of聽clinical judgment and cognitive errors on USMLE style questions in the Clinical Sciences.聽 Sessions are conducted by The Clinical Scholars Program Teaching Assistants.
    • The Residency Advising Program聽– An Office of the Dean of Student Development program, cohosted by the Clinical EED. The purpose of the program is to prepare students to match at their preferred residency program.
    • Step 1 to Success Program – An EED Step 1 Prep program supplement hosted by the Clinical Scholars Program Teaching Assistants. Students聽receive targeted cognitive processing sessions with an intentional plan toward improving academic outcomes on the Step 1 exam.
